Mrs SALLY QUINNELL (Camden) (18:03): NAIDOC Week is often an opportunity to connect with the Aboriginal community in many positive ways. It is also an opportunity to educate our young people about the land on which they learn and play, and Camden Cottage Preschool really outshone itself this year. On Thursday 6 July I was honoured to add my own handprint to the newest addition to the Camden Cottage playground. The Camden Cottage Preschool mural is a contemporary Aboriginal painting that pays homage to the local Aboriginal Dharug, Dharawal and Gundungarra people as well as to the journey of the students and teachers at the school. Featuring concentric circles representing the meeting places of the local peoples, as well as the preschool, the mural contains depictions of the children and their families, as well as Aboriginal totems and symbols. The mural was completed by the Wandana Aboriginal education group. The children have been enjoying its educational resources throughout the year. It was a beautiful day, and the children will have a gorgeous place to play and recollect country all year long.
